Mr Tsekes graduated from the University of Athens Medical School in December 2003. He completed his training as junior doctor at Thiva General Hospital in 2005 and in 2006 started training as a core trainee in general surgery at Lamia General Hospital. In 2007 Mr Tsekes started specialist training in trauma and orthopaedics at Athens Naval Hospital whilst he obtained an MSc in “Metabolic Bone Disorders” from University of Athens Medical School. In 2009 Mr Tsekes moved to Whittington Hospital, London where he trained for a year as an orthopaedic registrar in lower limb, spinal surgery and traumatology. In 2010 he returned to KAT General Hospital of Attica (Athen’s Major Trauma Centre) for an 18 month fellowship in hand surgery, microsurgery and paediatric orthopaedics. In 2012 Mr Tsekes started as a registrar in Barnet and Chase Farm hospital where he trained until 2015, covering all aspects of Orthopaedics and Traumatology. In 2012 Mr Tsekes passed his final Orthopaedic Exams in Greece and became part of the GMC specialist register for Trauma and Orthopaedics in 2013. He subsequently succeeded in 2014 at the European Board of Orthopaedics and Traumatology Fellow exams (FEBOT) and in 2015, passed the UK FRCS(orthopaedic) exams becoming a RCS fellow. In 2015 Mr Tsekes trained as an Upper Limb Fellow at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust for a year. He subsequently returned to the Royal London Hospital for a year in 2016 as an Upper Limb and Hand Fellow. Mr Tsekes then worked as a Locum Orthopaedic Consultant and Upper limb specialist in Barking Havering and Redbridge University Hospital Trust for 18 months. Since June 2018 he has been a substantive Trauma and orthopaedic Consultant in Basildon and Thurrock University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust specialising in shoulder and elbow surgery.
Throughout his orthopaedic career Mr Tsekes has specialised in upper limb surgery. He has completed two fellowships and can provide a full comprehensive Upper Limb service for degenerate disease and sports injuries. Mr Tsekes has also worked in busy General Hospitals and Major Trauma Centres acquiring skills and expertise in Upper, Lower Limb and Paediatric Traumatology. A keen trainer of juniors Mr Tsekes was nominated for the Trainer of the Year Award for 2018 in RLHOTS rotation. Mr Tsekes also runs courses on Upper Limb Surgery while being member of faculty for shoulder surgery cadaveric labs in Paris.
